چکیده

Introduction Spinal vascular system is the conduit through which nutrition, cells and drugs access the parenchyma of the spinal cord (SC). This system is severely damaged as a principal consequence of the spinal cord injury (SCI). The initial vascular damage plays a critical role in establishing the course of the well-established postinjury cascade including compromised blood spinal cord permeability, hypoxia, activation of various factors and, subsequently, secondary injuries. Histological data from experiments with rat and mouse models have indicated that neuropathological differences exist in injury responses between these rodents (Fig. 1) [1]. It is conceivable that these differences may be due to species-specific differences in the vascular organization of the spine. The aim of this study is to test this hypothesis by using magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) as an in vivo imaging tool to visualize the organization of the arterial network in normal mouse spine and parenchyma, and compare it with that of normal rat.

Blood Flow Simulation in an Aorta with a mild coarctation Using Magnetic Resonance Angiography and Finite Volume Method

Coarctation of the aorta is one of the five main congenital cardiovascular failures, accounting for 6–8 percent of these failures. This research aimed to simulate the blood flow of a seventeen-year-old male teen with a mild coarctation at one-third of his aorta's descending branch. The simulation was performed by extracting the domain and the input pulsatile velocity signal as the boundary cond...

Are magnetic resonance imaging or radiographic findings correlated with clinical prognosis in spinal cord neuropathy?

Dogs presented to the Small Animal Hospital of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tehran were included in the present study if spinal or intervertebral disc involvement was suspected. Clinical signs were recorded as well as general information of the patient such as age, breed and sex. Sixty dogs were examined radiographically and two standard orthogonal lateral and ventrodorsal projections wer...

P9: Cervical Spinal Cord Extraction in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Measuring Cross-Sectional Area

Multiple sclerosis (MS) refers to the lesions that accumulate in the brain and spinal cord. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most sensitive and versatile modality used to show changes in the tissues over time. There has been significant interest in evaluating the relationship between the brain atrophy and disease progression rather than the spinal cord atrophy. The cervical spinal cord h...

A general protocol of ultra-high resolution MR angiography to image the cerebro-vasculature in 6 different rats strains at high field

BACKGROUND Differences in the cerebro-vasculature among strains as well as individual animals might explain variability in animal models and thus, a non-invasive method tailored to image cerebral vessel of interest with high signal to noise ratio is required. NEW METHOD Experimentally, we describe a new general protocol of three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography to vis...
